Olivier's Best New Musical: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button ⏳

Throwback to a spontaneous Olivier Awards weekend! What's a better celebration than watching the Olivier-winning musical on a sunny Saturday afternoon - and going to the Awards at the Royal Albert Hall the following day?

Starting with The Curious Case of Benjamin Button at the Ambassadors Theatre:

Taken on 5th April 2025 at the Ambassadors Theatre (Stalls, E15)

They meant it when they say it's "an unordinary musical". With a very small and simple stage design, no full orchestra, and no set change throughout the 2.5 hours, this musical features 13 - and only 13 - charming actor musicians who are super talented in what they do. Amazing vocals and musical arrangement, a very well-written and structurally-complete screenplay filled with sentiment and a touch of classic British wit. Scenes were unusually long as well - so kudos to the cast for remembering the lines and choreography! And when I thought John Dagleish will be the only cast member who won't be playing an instrument - just you wait...!

You're building you life when the tide is coming, the tide is comin' in

Next was my first experience at THE Olivier Awards 2025 at the Royal Albert Hall!

A truly magical and star-studded ceremony hosted by Beverley Knight and Billy Porter. Congratulations to all the winners and especially to The Curious Case of Benjamin Button for winning:

  • Best New Musical

  • Best Actor in a Musical

  • Outstanding Musical Contribution

And guess what - seeing the cast two days in a row wasn't enough, I even bumped into John Dagleish outside the Royal Albert Hall before the Awards! (I promise I was only trying to take a picture of the RAH from the side...)
